Interesting point and true at least directionally if not order of magnitude about the per capita resource consumption. I guess, in my personal view, with increasing purchasing power in the hands of those who were so far underprivileged, the world will definitely see a "re-distribution of natural resources consumption" which will get more evenly spread out across the regions and continents. Greater demand and purchasing power for limited resources may result in - them becoming expensive, topic for political rifes and more optimal (reduced wastage by the rich world) consumption by those who consume 32 times today on per capita basis. Reality - like it or not.

I think the next big thing [killer app] would be the community/local news in the form of something like youtube [its recorded video now - but I suspect someone is working on a version that I am talking about]. I remember way back in 1992 at NID, Ahmedabad we talked about playing songs directly off the RAM available in a computer [pity someone was clever and they invented/ and invested in MP3 players - basically same as playing songs from the RAM].

Regards,
Arup
The future is bright [with a dark underbelly]...

Hi,

A thought that sprang up from ur post..! Enterprise apps still exist but whats being given importance and the focus of today is the web20 apps where user is the king and that content is what drives these technology powered houses..

But large scale companies still stick to Enterprise apps( ES @infy grew to 500 M this year). But very soon, there is a good chance that these large companies might start using some of these technologies for their advantage..

Flickr, Facebook, youtube is all for inividual user.. but there are some powerful contenders into small biz.. and for the large organizations.. something might spring up soon..
